Schema import overview

Fetchpier can generate a collection from an existing API schema. Supported formats:

  • OpenAPI 3.x and Swagger 2.x, JSON or YAML.
  • GraphQL SDL (.graphql / .gql) and GraphQL introspection JSON.
  • Postman v2.x collection JSON, including environment files.
  • WSDL (SOAP web services) — SOAP 1.1 / WSDL 1.1 bindings only. Non-SOAP HTTP bindings and WSDL 2.0, including REST/JSON services, are not supported.

The source of the schema can be a local file, an HTTP(S) URL, or pasted raw text, chosen via tabs in the import wizard.

By default an import lands in the folder currently selected in the collection tree — or the folder containing the selected request; with nothing selected it lands at the root of the request tree. The same selection drives where the toolbar’s “New request” and “New collection” actions create.

Format detection is automatic from the input content (or you can specify it manually). Once detected, the import wizard prompts for:

  • Collection name (defaults to the schema’s title).
  • Conflict strategy when the target collection already exists: merge — add the schema’s requests, skip any whose name collides with an existing request, and leave every other request untouched — or abort, which makes no changes and reports the conflict. There is no option that deletes the existing collection; to start fresh, delete the collection yourself first.
  • Environment strategy (Postman only): create a new environment from the file, merge into the active one, or skip.

Long-running imports report progress events, so the UI shows a progress bar and the current operation. The result summary lists how many requests, folders, and environment variables were created, plus any per-operation warnings. The generated collection uses Fetchpier’s own .http format, so once imported it is editable like any hand-authored collection.

The first schema import per session takes slightly longer (~200–300 ms) while the importer modules load on demand; subsequent imports in the same session are immediate.

Per-format guides: OpenAPI / Swagger, GraphQL, WSDL, Postman.
